Message from the Director – Celebrate our 65th season

Aug 22, 2017 | Announcements
The Bucks County Symphony celebrates its 65th season this year—and our tradition of stellar soloists and great masterpieces continues!

Once again, we begin our season at Delaware Valley University’s beautiful Life Sciences Auditorium. We are very proud to introduce our new Assistant Conductor, Sebastian Grand, to conduct Rossini’s rousing William Tell Overture to open the concert, followed by celebrated flutist Demarre McGill playing Mozart’s beloved G Major Flute Concerto No. 2. Cesar Franck’s always popular Symphony in D minor concludes the program.

Award-winning pianist Tomer Gewirtzman joins the BCSO for our Winter Concert, performing Johannes Brahms’ powerful Piano Concerto in No. 1 in D minor, Op. 15. The sensual, transporting Suite No. 2 from Daphnis and Chloe by Maurice Ravel fills out the program.

At our Spring Concert, the amazing violinist Simone Porter will play Erich Korngold’s ultra- romantic Concerto for Violin. If you enjoy Korngold’s exciting scores to the Errol Flynn films Robin Hood and The Sea Hawk, you’ll love this concerto! Setting the scene will be Borodin’s evocative “Polovetsian Dances” from Prince Igor (the musical inspiration of the Broadway musical, Kismet). The rousing season conclusion will be none other than Tchaikovsky’s great Symphony No. 5 in E minor, Op. 64.

Our Pops Concert this year falls on March 17—St. Patrick’s Day! Helping us celebrate all things Irish will be legendary Irish tenor Robert White, singing great Irish songs like “Danny Boy” and “When Irish Eyes Are Smiling.” Erin Go Bragh! And don’t forget to bring your young friends to our December Family Concert to enjoy the exuberant sounds of young string players from Bridge Valley, Doyle, Kutz, and Warwick Elementary Schools, under the direction of Lauren Herrschaft, as well as some special musical surprises. Featured soloist is the winner of our annual Youth Concerto Competition, Lea Wang, performing Pablo de Sarasota’s thrilling Zigeunerweisen.

Join the BCSO fun in 2017 – 2018—and be inspired by great music and performers, right in your backyard!

See you soon!

Music Director
