Dora von Trentini, 2011 Youth Competition winner, will Perform with Symphony

Dora, age 15, is a sophomore at George School, and an Honor student on the Head of the School List. She began studying violin at the age of five with Julian Meyer, and subsequently with Lee Snyder. Currently, she studies with violinist Yayoi Numazawa of the Philadelphia Orchestra. She is a member of the Philadelphia Youth Orchestra, and is in an Advanced Studies Ensemble at the Settlement Music School. In previous years, she has played in the Youth Chamber Orchestra under Maestro Biava at the Temple Music Prep.

 

In 2011, Dora was Concertmaster of PMEA District 11 Orchestra Festival, and an Advanced Studies Scholarship recipient at the Settlement Music School. She was also the winner of the Newtown Chamber Orchestra competition and the Bucks County Symphony Orchestra Youth Competition. In 2007 and 2008, she was a recipient of the Anthony Simmons Memorial Scholarship at Settlement Music School, and played in master classes held by violinists Ida Kavafian, Pamela Frank, and Ida Levin.

 

Dora enjoys playing a wide variety of repertoire as a soloist as well as in music ensembles. She has attended chamber music camps, Point CounterPoint and Music in the Mountains, for the past three summers, where she played in master classes held by violinist Joseph Silverstein, cellist Marcy Rosen, and violist Gillian Rogell. In addition to violin, she has been studying piano with Edward Ferdinand, and enjoys playing chamber music as a pianist. In school, her favorite subjects are English and chemistry, and she enjoys skiing, ice skating, tennis and reading in her free time.
