BCSO presents outreach programs in Central Bucks Schools
Oct 1, 2025 | Announcements
Since the BCSO’s founding in 1953, school outreach programs have been a priority for its musicians and board of directors. The BCSO’s mission statement is “sharing the joy of symphonic music through live performance and educational outreach,” and one of the organization’s three guiding principles is “promoting music education programs in our local schools.”
Each performance season features a variety of special outreach presentations as part of the Partnership in Education collaboration between the BCSO and Central Bucks School District, a partnership that has been mutually beneficial for the past 70 years. In addition, CBSD musicians are invited to perform in the annual Family Concert, three senior orchestra students are chosen to receive a $1,000 Helen Buckman Award, and BCSO has become a proud sponsor of CB Save-the-Music.
In the 2024-2025 season, the following special outreach programs in CBSD were facilitated by the BCSO:
- Presentations at CB East and CB West for all third graders in each school “cluster” with Assistant Conductor Sebastian Grand leading small ensembles of BCSO musicians demonstrating a variety of string and wind instruments for the students.
- Masterclasses by BCSO guest artists during Lunch & Learn in October, February and April: Valentin Kovalev (saxophone) and Christopher Goodpasture (piano) at CB East, Jonathan Swensen (cello) at CB West.
- Jason Morehouse’s CB East Wind Ensemble participated in the Family Concert in December, performing alongside the BCSO.
- BCSO was an Orchestration Sponsor of Central Bucks Save-the-Music in January.
- Kiera Hansel (CB South), Emily Tian (CB East), and Ivan Urquia (CB West), were presented with the Helen Buckman Award for exceptional dedication, leadership, and musical achievement at senior awards ceremonies in May.
- Three highly talented CB students were active musicians in the BCSO during the season.
The BCSO continues to search for new and exciting ways to connect with our musicians of the future and to inspire them in their musical journeys. It is one of our primary missions to the Central Bucks community!
